Rumble in Paradise III final information

UPDATE- parking info from Aush at CrossFit San Diego!

“ The entire block around CrossFit San Diego’s building is public parking.  However it is not all the same.

METERED PARKING:
On Saturday the meters on 14th, E street, and 15th street are ON and are all checked routinely between 8am and 6pm, the meters are all $0.50 an hour.
There will also be metered parking on neighboring blocks.  The closer you go towards Gas Lamp the more expensive but most all the meters in our neighborhood are $0.50/hour.
UN-METERED PARKING:
The BEST parking is going to be on F street.  On both sides of F street there is 4 hour (UN-METERED) parking.  F street is un-metered between 16th and 14th streets on both sides.
Please plan ahead for parking, it won’t be difficult to find spots, but make sure you understand what you need to do to avoid a ticket!”

Preregistration:

I will be available at CrossFit Elysium (4575 30th st, between Madison and Monroe) on Wed, 1/15, 5:30-6:30pm and Fri, 1/17 from noon-1pm. Any athlete who wishes to pick up their scorecard and T shirt, and save time the morning of should show up to preregistration. Judges may also come to preregistration to pick up their T shirts.

WOD 1- 0800-0930

Workouts/Standards: Judges and Athletes PLEASE review, several standards have been clarified! Ladies, you will be using women’s (33lb) bars which we will be treating as 35lb bars for the competition.

WOD 1

Intermediate- AMRAP 2min pull ups, immediately followed by AMRAP 2min hand release push ups.

Advanced- AMRAP 2min chest to bar pull ups, immediately followed by AMRAP 2min handstand push ups.

Movement standards-

pull up- the movement starts with arms at full extension hanging from the pull up bar, and ends when the chin breaks the horizontal plane of the bar. Strict or any form of kipping is allowed. If you jump up to the pull up bar, there must be a brief moment of hanging with arms at full extension, ie jumping pullups are not allowed.

chest to bar pull up- same start as the pull up; the movement ends when a portion of the chest (clavicle or below) physically touches the pull up bar. Strict or any form of kipping is allowed.

hand release push up- the movement starts with arms at full extension, legs/hips/torso all straight and locked out. The athlete touches their chest to the ground and removes both hands from the ground, then pushes themselves back up to the start position. NOTE- “snaking” or “worming” of the push up is inevitable as the athlete tires, but the rep WILL NOT COUNT until the final, locked out, straight leg/hip/torso position is achieved. In other words, it can look ugly, but the final position must be a plank. No sagging hips or legs!

handstand push up- the movement starts with the athlete inverted, arms and legs straight, heels against the wall (ie, back to the wall). HSPU with torso facing the wall will not count. The athlete will touch their head to the ground and return to the start position. They may come off the wall in the process of pushing up, but must end on the wall for the rep to count (ie, falling off the wall will result in a no rep). Strict or kipping is allowed.

WOD 2

Intermediate and Advanced- 10 min to establish the heaviest clean and jerk possible. Assume female bars weigh 35lb.

Movement standards- 

Athletes will load their bar with any weight they choose. The bar starts on the ground and is cleaned to the shoulders in any fashion (eg, power, squat, muscle, etc). Once at the shoulders, it is brought overhead in any fashion (eg, press, push press, jerk). The movement ends when the bar is directly overhead, with arms, torso, hips and legs all locked out and fully extended, feet in a line when viewed from the side. Press outs are acceptable, but no part of the body other than the feet may touch the ground (ie, knee hitting the ground will be a no-rep). The barbell can ONLY be dropped in front; dropping from behind will result in a no-rep.

WOD 3

Intermediate- AMRAP 15 min: 10 snatch (95/65lb), 5 burpees with lateral jump over the bar (BOB), 10 front squat (95/65), 5 BOB, 10 hang clean (125/85lb), 5 BOB, 10 deadlift (125/85), 5 BOB. Athletes will add/remove weight during the WOD as needed (30lb total males, 20lb females).

Advanced- AMRAP 15 min: 10 snatch (135/85lb), 5 burpees with lateral jump over the bar (BOB), 10 front squat (135/85), 5 BOB, 10 hang clean (165/115lb), 5 BOB, 10 deadlift (165/115), 5 BOB. Athletes will add/remove weight during the WOD as needed (30lb total males, 30lb females).

Movement standards-

Snatch- the bar starts on the ground, and is brought from ground to overhead in one motion, “snatch” style. Any snatch is acceptable (eg power, squat, muscle, etc). The movement ends with the bar locked out overhead, arms, torso, hips and legs all straight, feet in a line when viewed from the side. Press outs will be allowed.

front squat- the bar starts in the front rack position, elbows in front of the bar with athlete standing tall with hips and legs straight. The athlete will squat with hips below the knee and return to the start position. If a rep starts from the ground, it may be power cleaned or squat cleaned immediately into the first front squat without having to start in the standing position. Zercher or other “odd” front squats are not allowed.

Hang clean- the bar starts at the high hang position, arms/hips/legs straight and locked out. The bar is cleaned to the front rack position, with elbows in front of the plane of the bar. The movement ends with the bar in the front rack position, athlete standing tall, torso/hips/legs all straight and locked out. Any form of hang clean (eg, power, squat, split) is acceptable so long as the start and finish positions are met. Linked reps do not require a pause at the hang position.

deadlift- the bar starts on the ground and is lifted to the hang position, with torso/hips/legs straight and locked out, shoulders behind the bar. Any grip width/type is allowed. Sumo style is not allowed.

Burpees over the bar- the movement starts with the athlete standing alongside the barbell. The athlete will drop so the chest and legs touch the ground, then rise back to their feet. The athlete then jumps laterally over the bar. The athlete does not need to be standing completely upright prior to the jump, but the feet must be the ONLY point of contact with the ground when the jump is made. Intermediate division- the athlete may step or jump laterally over the bar. Advanced division- the athlete must make a 2 footed lateral jump (ie, feet leave the ground at the same time).

 

Scoring methodology:

athletes will compete as individuals. A reverse points system will be used (e.g, 1st place gets one point, 2nd two points, etc). The individual with the lowest cumulative point total wins. In the event of a tie, the individual with the best individual finishes wins.

Team scoring:

After individual standings are determined, each athlete is awarded team points based on the list below. All team points for each affiliate will be added, and the affiliate with the highest total will win the team prize!

Team point distribution- 1st 200, 2nd 175, 3rd 150, 4th-last 125, 124, 123, etc

 

Food/Parking/amenities:

We are pleased to announce Pete’s Paleo will be onsite serving lunch, while Paleo Treats will also be present providing their tasty snacks! Please plan on bringing any other form of snacks/beverages.

There is plenty of metered street parking available.

CrossFit San Diego has multi-person restroom facilities, and in addition there will be two portapotties on site.

 

Spectators:

As this is a friendly competition, we encourage spectators. Please respect the athlete and vendor areas. Otherwise, feel free to “camp out” anywhere, and cheer as close to the athletes as you’d like!
